Let's be real. Sometimes life just deals crappy cards regardless of law-of-attraction, karma or anything else that can rationally explain unfortunate circumstances. One character example that comes to mind is Joseph, son of Jacob (Israel), in the book of Genesis. Out of jealousy, his brethren sold him into slavery for 20 pieces of silver
to Ishmeelites who then brokered him to Potiphar, captain of the guard to Egypt's Pharaoh (Genesis 37: 23-29). Scriptures tell us that the Lord was with Joseph and blessed him to prosper so much during his servitude to Potiphar that he was elevated to the top of the household and second only to his master. However, that did not last forever as Potiphar's wife falsely accused him of sexual improprieties, thus culminating in his imprisonment (Genesis 39: 7-20).
